The only tree in nature whose bark is white is the birch.  The white colour is due to a substance which by the Latin name Betula is called Betulin. Every part of this beautiful tree /leaves, sap, buds, bark/ has its healing role. The leaves of the White Birch are among the 50 most exported herbs from the country, of the so-called multi-toned herbs-those that are exported by the ton. The strongest interest is in birch tinctures.. In them there is a large amount of vitamin C. In order to make the most of the useful properties of birch leaves, it is most important that their collection, drying and storage for economic needs should be done according to certain rules. Birch leaves are harvested after flowering in May and June, until September, when they are fully developed. They should be a nice green colour, neither yellowed nor harvested early, as they turn black quickly. The birch lives up to 150 years, is unpretentious, cold-resistant and drought-resistant, is a pioneer species, grows quickly and cleanses the air of disease-causing micro-organisms. The so-called downy birch contains methyl salicylate, which is the natural equivalent of aspirin. Probably because of this, from ancient times until today, they call the birch "white friend" and "guardian of the home".
